"Ten: Is It The Real Thing?" - 2nd Sept 2023 - acrylic, gloss varnish on canvas 10x10x1cm

Well I said the Tens were over and done with and a thousand paintings seemed like more than enough, but hey, I have been missing painting them and I was thinking about why I paint and what I want to paint and how I didn’t really feel that comfortable just producing art (or “stuff”) for things like the Art Car Boot Fair. I was concluding one Ten painting a day, I had no real plan when I started, I thought I might do it for a couple of weeks, then I thought maybe I’ll keep going until I’ve painted 43, then it just went on and on (and on)

The daily painting series was completed back on 6th April 2023. A series of daily concluded 10cm square paintings, a painting finished every single day, not started and finished on the same day, just one concluded every day – there was always a number of Ten paintings in progress at any given time here in the studio. Always on a 10cm x 10cm x 1cm canvas, The daily series started back in July 2020, the series was brought to an end on the 1000th day at the start of April 2023. The paintings were always on a 10cm square canvas, always offered for sale at a price of just £10, always Ten, ten was the thing. You can find images of all one thousand paintings on my website. When the series ended I said I imagined I will carry on painting 10cm paintings but not every day… And that has indeed been the case, here are all the Tens since the series ended back in April. It will go on, i rather like the format…

The painting is signed with an "S" on the artwork and fully signed, dated and titled on the back
